Character, main and offspecs: Dóms Balance main, OS Guardian
What is your main spec and why? Over the years, I’ve played different specializations in the raiding environment. Played main tank during MoP content of Throne of Thunder and SoO. Played feral main during WoD, but because of the changes to the spec prior to Legion release to feral, I decided to try balance for the first time, as there isn’t such a high-demand for feral druids in relation to balance damager. So far, I’ve very much enjoyed the balance game play, both in mythic raids and in mythic+ dungeons as the class’ variety of talents offer far more versatile gameplay.
Which talents do you use and which changes (if any) do you make for each specific encounter of the most current raid? Firstly, I should begin with the fact that balance aren't amazing and BiS class for one fight. They are versatile, and their play style, with the right legendries, gear and talents can reflect that fluidity. Simply, boomkins are good at everything, but not best at something in particular. I can explain it further in these three main play styles:
There are three major paths a balance player can take this expansion with their choice of talents. Pure AoE, pure ST, and a hybrid of the two. Pure AoE, on fights such as mythic Spellblade composes of mainly Moon and Sunfire dots, and most importantly of Starfall. I use the legendary wrists for that reason. Opting for Soul of the Forest, for that available starfall, echoing stars and Stellar Drift, buffing that starfall game play. I would use this build for Mythic Skorpyron as well as evident on my logs. During Progression on Mythic Chromatic Anomaly, I used the hybrid build, using Incarnation, Blessing of the Ancients and Stellar drift, (faster clear on the adds) with the legendary ring. However, as the fight today are super short, I would use the legendary head and wrists instead of, opting for that powerful burst as the fight is quite short. Other times, the hybrid is powerful on fights such as Tichondrius, where you need strong ST on the boss, yet simultaneously having the availability of AoE damage for the bloods control and later other mobs as well. I've up to this point used the hybrid build of Inc, Blessing and SD on fights such as Krosus, where ST damage is necessary yet AoE is also required to control the adds which spawn when some patches aren't soaked.
The list of my legendries are as followed for balance; Emerald Dreamcatcher, Impeccable Fel Essence and Oneth’s Intuition. The three which I also have, yet do not use as they aren’t my bis or have viable stats are Cindaria, the Symbiote, Prydaz and Sephu’z Secret. (Though, I did Sephuz on the CM for balance, the Twins, as the burst of speed helped me to move away from the target, whilst giving me that that burst of haste and Prydaz would be useful on Mythic Gul'dan progression, the shield generation very strong every 30 seconds, however I'm basing that assumption on what I've seen being used by other balance druids). Tell us about how you gear your character (stat priority, gems, set bonuses):
In Pure ST environment, such as Star Augar, I would use the legendary head and ring, with the build talent of Inc, Blessing and Nature's Balance. Allowing for the tunnel on boss whilst being able to move with the brands when required. One of the major drawbacks is the legendary head, ED, which if you move too much, you will lose the head leg proc and will need to build it back up, however, with my 31.75% haste breakpoint, it’s easy for me to build that proc back.
To what extent do you play each of your offspecs?
(i.e. Do you use them in raids / are you up to date with knowledge, practice and interface / do you have any artifact power and legendaries / do you enjoy them / would you be willing to make them your main spec if beneficial for the guild) I play my guardian OS in mythic+, rated bgs and if need be in mythic raids as well. I tanked mythic Cenarius, using the three tank strategy, tanking one (then two) dragons away from raid. Previously, I also tanked mythic Renferal alongside two other tanks.
Do you have any significant alts? I’ve always played druid, as it can offer to tank, heal melee and range dps, I never found the need to play other classes.
Did you ever change classes and do you consider doing so again in the future? Once, when Cataclysm hit. I played protection paladin, but then tried out the worgen starting area as a druid and never looked back.
Equipment and interface:
What are the specifications of your computer? My PC specs: http://imgur.com/a/HmI02 IntelR Core i7-6700 CPU Processor 3.41GHz
RAM: 16 GB / Storage: 2 TB HDD & 256 GB SSD
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060
Do you have headphones and a microphone? Yep! I use a corsair headset (got tired of using crap ones, and having to replace them after few months.)
What is your latency on Kazzak-EU? On average, my MS(Home) is 70 and MS(world) currently 115, but normally it’s lower and similar to my MS(Home).
Which addons do you use? Majority of my UI is standard blizzard format. However, the addons that I use en masse are weak auras. Weakauras for my legendary procs, timers etc. Other WAs show the stacks of my empowered buffs on my Lunar Strike and my Solar Wrath. Furthermore, I also have a WA for my AP bar, which also determines how much AP I will receive from my next, allowing for me to calculate how many spells I can cast off before my ED buff drops off. I finally have all the BiS legendries for balance, the head being a one I obtained a few days back, but the chain weave play style is easily learned and adapted to. My other addons, are obviously Skada, which shows my damage output, but it also shows during fights from which spell I've taken damage the most from, and if possible, avoid unnecessary damage. Going back to that avoidable damage, I also have GTFO announcer which makes awful noises if I was to stand in fire!
The next major addons I use are Pawnz and SimC, all amazing addons which show how much of an upgrade (in terms of dps) an item would be in a scenario. Based on that theory, I've made varying builds, switching around my legendries and other items to maximise the potential damage. The rest of my addons are straight forward, DBM boss timers, OmniCC for my spell cds, RSA an announcer for rebirth (CR), innervate etc. Deja Character Stats, because it gives a far better variety of stats than the standard blizzard Character UI. And lastly, I use TidyPlates for a better visual of spread of dots and their timers. Of course, I use Exorsus Raid Tools, RCLoot council, and other utility addons such as the Auctioneer etc.
Can you link a video of one of your bosskills (with your PoV)? If not, please upload a screenshot of your UI. http://imgur.com/a/P1oFJ
Do you click abilities or do you use keybindings (or a combination of both)? I have everything keybound to my keyboard and corsair gaming mouse. Including druid Rebirth, my potions etc.
Do you use any macros? (e.g. mouseover macros) Balance only have one combat enhancing spell. Incarnation (or the untalented version). Which I’ve key bound to my Q. I used a macro previously for on use haste trinket from Vault of the Wardens, with stacking intel per spell with my incarnation. As there aren’t any on-use trinkets in NH, I haven’t had the need to make one.
Raiding experience and guild history:
What guilds were you in before, why did you join them and why did you leave them?
Joined Hardmode Raiding Crew, Alliance Sylvanas. Raided hardcore mythic with them. We didn’t get past Siegecrafter Blackfuse as 10men guild, as such, the guild merged with another. Some people left, others decided to quit. I enjoyed playing with my friends, and when they left the guild, so did I.
I came back to game during WoD. Played with some random guilds to clear normal and HC HM and BrF. Was later recruited to Chapati Allstars by a friend. They disbanded at later time.
In Legion, I played with Alliance guild Versatile. I left as they already had a balance with BiS legendries before 7.1.5 nerfs. (Raiding two nights a week, they wanted to maximise their rooster composition. I understood that, but as a result, I was side-lined as I’ve been extremely unlucky with said legendries at the start. Luckily, now I have all the BiS legendries, including my recently acquired Emerald Dreamcatcher.
I decided to apply to another guild back on Draenor, The Last Pull. I helped them kill Botanist, using the tactics I saw were used by Versatile. Apparently, that guild has had 8 balance druids join them this expansion. That should have been my que as to what kind of guild they are. They don’t take jokes too well. I apologised to the GM and healer, but their decision was already made. I cleared whole of EN, ToV, NH on Normal, Heroic, and Mythic for three weeks. But after that time, they decided not to keep me in their rooster.
As I did prior to WoD, I’ve decided to start somewhere fresh and new. The realm Kazzak offers many opportunities. And as a two-night raiding guild, I’ve decided to apply to you guys.
Please list all the bosses you have killed when their raid tier was still the cutting edge:
(see optional template below)
Cataclysm: Cleared FL and DS on normal as casual.
Mists of Pandaria: ToT 12/12N, 5/13HC. SoO, full cleared Flexible and Normal, and 11/13HC.
Warlords of Draenor: Casually cleared HM and BrF on normal and HC. Killed Mythic Oregorger, Gruul, Hans and Franzok and Blast Furnace before HFC came. Killed 12/13Mythic HFC before nerfs, but then my guild, Chapati Allstars on Draenor disbanded before we got to killed Archimonde.
Legion: 7/7Mythic EN, 2/3Mythic ToV and 7/10Mythic.
What sources and/or methods do you use to keep your class knowledge up to date? I’m always up-to date on mmo-champion and wowhead. But for my class specific info, I check fluiddruid and on balance druid discord channel. But all in all, I think it’s best to check what other top class players of your class play on certain fights. Checking logs and seeing what people pick and use.
How do you prepare for a new bossfight? I enjoy watching people stream mythic progress. I’m curious to see the fights before I go and have a go on my own. People who come to raids, not knowing the tacts of a boss must be quite panicked I imagine. Not knowing what will happen, that uncertainty can take away from a player’s performance. Hence why I watch streams. They prepare me for what’s to come.
Why you are applying:
What are your goals in this game? I'm looking for a friendly, yet progression focused environment, where suggestions on how to improve on a boss fight from players are heard/considered on forums or whilst playing, and not discarded or ignored. This seriousness whilst raiding, coupled with the ability to have a laugh, crack some friendly banter and enjoy playing the game. I also enjoy pushing high mythic+ keys. The system as a whole has in my opinion been very successful. Some people say they ''cba'' with running one dungeon all the time (pre 7.2), but I disagree; with the affixes system, (and further with the new affixes and increased difficulty in the latest patch) I find myself thinking of new strategies on how to clear the dungeons more efficiently. With this guild, I'm hoping to find a new home, a place where people can have a good laugh and genuinely have fun, whilst joining me for some raiding or mythic+. I've played balance or tank in mythic+, and enjoyed both. And I strongly believe that with guild, on a voice comm, is much more fun and in some cases more rewarding then running the mythic+ with random pugs.
What are the reasons why you specifically want to join Rock Paper Scissors? I saw your progress on wowprogress, and saw you’re recruiting all classes. That gives me hope that as a druid, I can offer and find a spot as a range dps or a tank.
More about you:
Do you have any days or times you're unable to raid?: Non, I’m free most days as my Uni lectures are in the morning or afternoon and I got to gym in the mornings before school.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself as a person? Hopefully you haven’t fell asleep having read this far! 😃 As said, my name is Dominick but friends call me Dom. I study (Ba) honours in History at Wolverhampton University, England. Amongst my hobbies, I count painting, watching Anime and reading Manga, playing football, reading fiction (Game of Thrones, KingKiller Chronicles, Tolkien etc.) Besides WoW, I enjoy played Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch. When I was a kid, I first developed my love for video games through playing Crash Bandicoot on PS1.
What is your proudest moment/achievement in WoW? Well, those are two distinct questions. My proudest moment in WoW universe was when my brother let me play on his account, during WotLK, on the very first boss in Ulduar. I commandeered my own tank, riding over iron dwarfs and laughing so hard I fell off my chair. It was one heck of a moment for an 11-year-old kid. As to my proudest achievement? I would say it would be the whole time I entered the hardcore raiding environment during MoP. I used to tank in a 10Men Guild. Each and every single heroic (now mythic) kill was amazing. When after hundreds of wipes, we finally managed to bring down the boss and everyone roared with enjoyment! There is no specific moment I’ve felt proud, but rather each and every time I was part of a team and it was unlike any joy I’ve received from video games.
What is your /played? Total time played on my druid is 238 days, 18 hours, 0 minutes and 12 seconds and counting!
Anything else you would like to add or explain? I imagine I’ve said everything I wanted, and if there is anything further you guys would like to know about me, please don’t hesitate to contact me via my b.net Dominick#21676
